Our front page reviews include a look at the newest HO scale diesel locomotive model from Atlas Model Railroad Company — the Electro-Motive Division GP40. This all new model features numerous add-on details. Examined is Atlas’ Southern Pacific, Speed Lettered version, making this more than just a typical GP40. Managing editor Michael J. Pratt relays his findings in this full color review, which features thirteen detailed model photos.
Dr. John Hullman dissects the new USRA Drop Bottom Composite Gondola in N scale from InterMountain. The newest N scale offering features similar characteristics to its HO counterpart. The all color review is also featured on our August front page.
Inside the August, 2000 issue, you will find a full page and one half covering the new Life-Like N scale E6 locomotive. Michael J. Pratt reviews this new offering in the Santa Fe, and Louisville & Nashville paint schemes. Both A and B units are being offered by Life-Like, and Michael covers both models in this full color review.
Stuart R. Thayer lends his expertise to MRN in the evaluation of similar models from two different companies — the Fairbanks-Morse freight C-Liner. Offered by Life-Like Products, Inc., along with Life-Like/Hobbycraft Canada, the HO scale diesel model is offered for U.S. and Canadian railroads. Detail differences between the U.S. and Canadian versions are covered in this full color review.
David Otte reviews the Alco RS-11/RSD-12 O gauge diesel locomotive. Beginning in the center spread, this review includes seven color photos featuring the Weaver RSD-12 for New York Central, and the RS-11 decorated for New Haven. O gauge Alco-holics will want to check out the in-depth evaluation.
Back for his third locomotive review this issue, and the second for Atlas, Michael J. Pratt covers the N scale SD35. Atlas is offering the new diesel model in low, and high short nose versions. Michael reviews the high nose model of Montana Rail Link, as well as the low nose model for Chessie system. Atlas has taken a few steps forward with these new N scale models, and these steps can plainly be seen in this two page color review.
David Otte lifts the cover off Hundmann Publishing’s The Milwaukee Electrics, by Noel T. Holley. This is the second edition of The Milwaukee Electrics, the first being published by N. J. International, Inc. in 1987. In the new edition, the author and publisher have added additional pictures, including a color section, as well as extensive diagrams.
